Use this tactic and your boss will thank you for working together.

[Reading time: 2 minutes today to avoid 10 years of career regrets tomorrow 😉]

One of the questions I’m often asked is:

"How can I get noticed by my boss and demonstrate my value?"

The tactic is simple, but very effective: Identify and address your boss's main source of stress or time-wasting.

Ask your boss what problem they're trying to solve and offer your help.
For example:

  • You could take responsibility for coordinating the preparation of the presentation your boss has to send to the Board every month, which takes up a lot of their time.

  • You could participate as a speaker at an industry conference in place of your boss, strengthening your personal brand in the process.

  • You could propose to manage the relationship with a partner that requires a lot of your boss's energy and causes stress.

Take on these challenges and show that you are the support your boss needs.

Make your boss think: "Thank goodness you are here."

This is the moment where you can truly make a difference and show your value.

“But Silvia, all this servitude doesn’t feel authentic!”

Look, this isn't about servitude.

It's about preparing yourself to manage the time, stress, and challenges your boss faces daily—the same challenges I hope you will soon face as a leader.

Before I go, I want to share with you 3 very brief but important points you need to read so you won’t have regrets in the next 12 months (or 10 years) of your career.

IMPORTANT #1: I will never tire of repeating one practice that very few executives or aspiring leaders follow: regularly write down every success and goal you achieve. Here are two strategic reasons for this:

  • At the end of the year, you’ll have a concrete list of achievements to present to your boss and HR. Don’t assume your boss will remember everything you’ve done and how you’ve contributed to the team’s success. Keep track of your impact and share it consistently.

  • Use these accomplishments to update your CV regularly. This way, you’ll avoid the sudden stress of updating it when HR or a headhunter asks for your CV for a position you want.
Don’t let your successes fade into oblivion!

IMPORTANT #2: Always remember...

In the corporate world, the Hope Strategy doesn’t work.

You can’t expect your value to be noticed by your boss and management without a clear action plan and precise tactics.

You need to prepare your strategy carefully and then take action.

You must demonstrate your value with concrete facts and measurable results.

How to do it? Read the following point 3.

IMPORTANT #3: DESIGN YOUR PERSONALIZED ACTION PLAN

Silvia
